Rosehill Cemetery
Chicago’s largest garden cemetery
located on the Northside
a place for your loved ones
Founded in 1859, the 350-acre Rosehill Cemetery is the largest—and one of the older—cemeteries in the city of Chicago. Gothic and Victorian-era architecture and monuments preserve the historical landscape of beautiful and serene surroundings. Mature trees and landscape also provide shade-protection and soft visuals everywhere on the property.
It is the burial place of many well known Chicagoans including Aaron Montgomery Ward, founder Montgomery Ward & Company, Byron Laflin Smith, founder The Northern Trust Company, John G. Shedd, philanthropist, founder The Shedd Aquarium, Oscar F. Mayer, business magnate, founder Oscar Mayer Company and Jack Brickhouse, Hall of Fame sports broadcaster. It contains many beautiful and historic monuments. Rosehill maintains the distinction of being the largest private burial ground of Union Veterans, including 16 Generals, in the State of Il.
